Public Sector Jobs Week 2007

Serving needs of the regional market

May 17 2007

By The Journal

Nigel Wright recently announced the appointment of Mike Turner, who will be joining the company in June from accountancy firm KPMG.

Mike has been working as a management consultant, focusing on the public sector in the North-East, and nationally, for the last eight years.

During that time, he has developed a detailed understanding of the sector, drivers and pressures, particularly in relation to local government. He will bring sector knowledge along with lots of energy and enthusiasm to the team.

Mike will be heading up the Nigel Wright public sector division.

He said: "In my position at KPMG, I've gained a good understanding of the skills and experience in demand from the public sector, which will be invaluable in my new role.

"My aim is that my team at Nigel Wright will provide a focused, professional service with local presence and unrivalled understanding of the regional market. I hope that we will become the first-choice recruitment consultancy for the public sector in the North-East and beyond.

"I've really enjoyed working with public sector organisations, especially in the North-East, and wanted to maintain this sector focus. However, I was also looking for a new challenge and change of direction. The opportunity to join the public sector team at Nigel Wright, therefore, offered the ideal opportunity to achieve both aims.

"The main challenge the public sector faces at present is improving efficiency while at the same time delivering enhanced services and meeting increasing customer demands.

"As with all organisations, this increases the pressure on attracting the best candidates, from both the public and private sector.

"The public sector is also seeking to improve its profile and image, highlighting the extensive range of roles and opportunities available in what are very large, complex and diverse organisations."

Nigel Wright has been working with public sector organisations for many years, one of the largest projects being the recruitment of over 50 IT professionals into Sunderland City Council.

Mark Simpson, head of the North-East division, said: "Mike's appointment shows Nigel Wright's commitment to serve the needs of the public sector to the highest possible standard.

"Our team of existing consultants have already gained expertise identifying the right individuals for the public sector. However, we will now have the capacity to advise clients at a higher level."
