Public Sector Jobs Week 2007

Celebrating unsung heroes

May 17 2007

By The Journal

Public Sector Jobs Week was set up three years ago to focus on celebrating and promoting the jobs and careers in the public sector that are a vital part in the social infrastructure of our society.

These are the jobs people often take for granted.

It is assumed there will be someone to support people with learning difficulties and their families.

The men and women who stop the traffic to allow children to cross busy roads do not appear by magic.

Potholes do not fill themselves, school meals need to be prepared and served, health workers support thousands every day. Public Sector Jobs Week brings these roles to the attention of those who may not have thought of the sector as an employment option.

The week is widely supported by the media and includes a one-day conference aimed at recruiters.

It is designed to add value to their roles by sharing best practice and the latest thinking about recruitment.

The public sector does a great job.People who work in it want to celebrate that and ensure it is able to attract and retain people who can make a difference to communities and individuals.
