DURHAM Business School has cemented a special relationship with the Government of Gibraltar which has seen the first group of students from the British territory graduate. Twenty-seven workers in Gibraltar’s public and private sectors have achieved a Durham Business School MA in enterprise management, with nine achieving distinctions. The programme was taught in Gibraltar by Durham staff in two-day blocks, every six to eight weeks. Between study periods, students returned to work, where they were able to put their learning into practice. Senior members of the Government of Gibraltar attended the ceremony at Durham Cathedral, and with more collaborations between the two organisations in the pipeline, this is likely to be the first of many graduations. Gibraltar’s director of education and training Ernest Gomez said: “Human resources are vitally important to Gibraltar’s future and as an increasing number of organisations are looking to set up offices here, such as gaming and offshore banking, the right training and investment in staff is critical. Our partnership with Durham Business School is going very well, so much so that we’re planning to roll the programme out to our teachers, to help develop their management skills.” Among the graduates was Superintendent Jay Gomez, of the Royal Gibraltar Police, who said: “The MA has really changed my perspective on the ways to motivate people. … “My experience with Durham Business School has been so positive that I’ll definitely be recommending that up-and-coming supervisors do the programme.” Durham is also the only British business school with a master’s programme in Jordan. |
