A NORTH law firm has closed five deals in as many weeks, worth more than £600m. Newcastle-based Dickinson Dees closed five public-private partnership (PPP) deals worth £615m. They include major projects for the Government’s national PFI and BSF schemes, in the education, emergency services, health and libraries sectors. Partner and head of the projects team Tim Care said: “The size, geographical reach and combined value of the deals closed by the projects team within the five-week period represent a phenomenal achievement for the firm. The team has an outstanding national reputation for public sector expertise, and the deals reflect the capacity the team now has, as well as the scope of the counsel we’re providing. “We are advising on some of the most important projects currently in progress in the UK, and the team is now recognised as a national expert on deals in the PPP sector. “Our work with both the private and public sector organisations in these deals means that we are able to understand the needs and requirements of all parties involved in the schemes and translate these into effective advice throughout the duration of the project.” In week one, Dickinson Dees advised Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust on its £300m PFI project. This was led by partner Tim Care and will fund two new hospitals at Pinderfields General Hospital, Wakefield, and Pontefract General Infirmary. Next, the team advised Newcastle City Council on a £40m PFI project to rebuild Newcastle Central Library and a branch in High Heaton, which will provide ICT facilities to the public. This was led by partner Iain Greenshields. Dees provided legal advice to Newcastle City Council on the first BSF scheme in the North-East to be signed. At £180m it is the biggest ever investment in schools in the city, which will transform teaching and learning. The project was led by Kevin Robertson, partner and national expert on BSF The firm advised Barclays on a local improvement finance trust worth £30m. Led by partner Russell Jarvis, this deal will provide improvements in Primary Care Trust facilities in Bury, Greater Manchester Finally, a team led by Russell Jarvis has also advised Nationwide Building Society on a £65m PFI for Dorset Emergency Services Partnership Initiative. |
