Law firm has the recipe for caterers’ success

Aug 8 2007

by Rebekah Ashby, The Journal

LAW firm Gordon Brown Associates has cooked up a deal to help two former international sportspeople bring a taste of Scotland to Tyneside.

Martin Donnelly, commercial property lawyer at the firm, based in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, helped the new owners set up Wee Mac’s Café and Takeaway in Hobson, near Burnopfield.

Professional golfer Hugh MacDonald, sister Margaret MacDonald and friend June Bryson have bought the premises at Front Street.

Like brother Hugh, hockey player Margaret had represented Scotland at international level.

Margaret and June ran a café in Scotland, serving actors such as Robbie Coltrane and members of the Taggart cast, and moved down to Tyneside to start their new business venture.

The premises had been a café but the new business will develop a takeaway service and an external catering service to follow.

Mr Donnelly said: “It is always good to help a new business set up and I think the idea of a café and takeaway bringing something different to the region is a great concept.

“It is particularly pleasing to know that the owners looked around and spoke to a number of firms before settling on Gordon Brown Associates, and that they are pleased with the service we provided.”

Mr MacDonald said: “Since opening, the response from the public has been very promising and we are hoping this will really take off.

“The service we received from Gordon Brown Associates was great. They stood out from the other firms we talked to and didn’t disappoint. We would certainly use them again in the future.”

Specialities will include English and Scottish breakfasts, as well as dishes such as haggis and spicy meatballs. The specials board will change daily, including favourites such as mince and dumplings, roast beef dinner, and lasagne.
