THE Mandale Park development on the outskirts of Durham has secured accountants Clive Owen & Co as its first tenant. Stockton-based developer Mandale has developed the site out of the old LG Phillips factory next to the Belmont Industrial Estate, close to the A1. The business park has 11 more units of office space to let, including nine over two storeys, one over three storeys, and a restaurant/cafeteria unit. Mandale has been marketing the offices through Sanderson Weatherall and Bradley Hall at £10.95 per sq ft and Clive Owen is believed to have signed up at that price. Clive Owen, which has 14 staff in its Durham office and expects to hire more, is moving from 2,000sq ft of space over two floors at Aykley Heads, Durham, to 2,500sq ft at Mandale to house its planned growth. Caroline Owers of Clive Owen, said: “We have been in our old office for quite a long time and it has got a bit cramped, and we can’t grow any more. “With this move, we have tried to make the firm a bit more accessible. We wanted somewhere brand new and we have not found other new developments in the right location. “Not all our clients are in Durham; we have gained some in Washington, so being near the A1 is a good selling point. Ms Owers said the company is planning to take on around six more staff over the coming months and years, and now had room to accommodate them. Mandale Property Group paid more than £6m for the 33.5-acre site of the former LG Philips Displays factory in March last year, beating off interest from around five other bidders. Mandale Park is close to Hanro’s proposed 100,000sq ft scheme on Belmont Business Park, on which it hopes to begin work by the end of this year. The Newcastle company has a five-acre plot at the entrance to the business park. Plans for the new offices were lodged at the end of May with Durham City Council. |
