IN its own small way, a Northumberland company has played a part in movie history, sharing the limelight with the star-studded cast of Oceans 13. The Stencil Library in Stocksfield is not the first company you might associate with a Hollywood blockbuster, but Warner Brothers liked three designs from its Japanese stencil range so much they bought them last year for inclusion in the film. Library partner Helen Morris said: “Three designs were bought by Warner Brothers under a non commercial licence last year. Unfortunately they offered us money instead of Brad Pitt and George Clooney.” Warner Brothers told Ms Morris that a purpose-built casino would be created for the film on Warner Brothers’ sound stage in Los Angeles. She said: “The set designers wanted to create a slightly mad, quasi-Asian feel for the interior and initially wanted to buy the stencil designs for the specially woven carpets. “After seeing the movie we spotted our designs on carvings and wall decorations as well as the carpets.” The library has also made stencils for Academy Award-winner Gladiator, one of the Bond films and several television dramas.
