South Tyneside Summer Festival at South Shields continued yesterday with Tony Hadley topping the bill.
After some confusion over which gates would be open first, finally the crowd was allowed in to Bents Park.
There was seating as long as you brought your own chair - council take note, this does not make for comfortable viewing.
The show began with a cracking performance from local band, Four Worried Men. They opened with Dakota by Stereophonics and went on with other songs in their 50-minute set, such as Ronan's Lovin' Each Day, This Love by Maroon 5 and Real Gone Kid by Deacon Blue.
Suave Tony Hadley began his set in sweltering heat (and black jacket!) with a cover of The Killers' Somebody Told Me and then treated everyone to Only When You Leave, Highly Strung and Lifeline.
More covers followed with Roxy Music's Price of Love and Mark Cohn's Walking In Memphis.
Things slowed down with the poignant Through The Barricades and the classic True, which everyone enjoyed.
Yet more cover versions came with Free Fallin' by Tom Petty, which was a request. Then it was Suspicious Minds and Tony got his guitar out for Let's Stick Together. He managed to brighten up a song I've never liked.
That's Life, which he performed on Reborn in the USA, was next and the 50-minute performance ended with the dramatic Gold.
Tony and his band were professional, yet didn't take it all too seriously. It was a fun afternoon.
