In 2001, hard man Vinnie Jones headlined Mean Machine, a British remake of the 1974 sports comedy-drama The Longest Yard, about a football match between prison inmates and their guards.
Now, comic dynamos Adam Sandler and Chris Rock bring their talents to bear on this brash but diverting American refit, complete with Burt Reynolds, the star of the original film, in a supporting role.
Disgraced NFL pro quarterback Paul Crewe (Sandler), whose glittering career was tarnished by allegations of match rigging, lands himself in jail after a boozy night out ends in automobile carnage.
He is despatched to a back-of-beyond Texan prison run by the vicious warden Hazen, who hopes Crewe can use his knowledge of American football to polish the rough edges off the prison's semi-professional team of guard players.
Crewe eventually agrees to the warden's demands and suggests the guards should play a warm-up game... against the prisoners. Crewe sets about recruiting his team aided by wise-cracking assistant caretaker (Rock) and coach (Reynolds).
The Longest Yard is undemanding and achingly predictable, but plays to its limited strengths, including bone-crunching action sequences.
Sandler plays to type, but is completely outshone by Rock in the comedy stakes, whose few appearances on screen are littered with great one-liners.
