A scene from the film Stealth

In the not-too-distant future, the American government has strengthened its aerial abilities by establishing a division of test pilots trained to fly highly classified stealth fighter jets.

Lieutenants Ben Gannon (Josh Lucas), Kara Wade (Jessica Biel) and Henry Purcell (Jamie Foxx) are three of the Navy's finest.

Masters of their secret aircraft, the daredevil pilots are capable of neutralising an enemy threat at a moment's notice. But the unit is about to meet its match.

The Commanding officer (Sam Shepard) introduces a new stealth plane with artificial intelligence known as EDI (Extreme Deep Invader). During the first mission, EDI impresses with its manoeuvrability and split-second decision-making.

When they fly into bad weather, EDI is struck by lightning, short-circuiting some systems.

It later malfunctions and disobeys orders and the Navy is faced with a rogue jet with the capability to destroy thousands.

Ben voices concerns about computerised aircraft: "I just don't think war should become some kind of video game."

Sadly, that's just what Rob Cohen's film is: an orgy of digital dogfights with a few slivers of plot thrown into the jet stream.

For the first 20 minutes, the swooping camerawork is quite exhilarating. Then it begins to lose its appeal. And the characters are two-dimensional.

Repeat after me: "I just don't think blockbuster films should become some kind of video game..."
