New girl for Journey South’s Andy

Oct 14 2007

by Coreena Ford, Sunday Sun

JOURNEY South star Andy Pemberton is singing for joy after falling in love with a girl he met on holiday, the Sunday Sun can reveal.

The Middlesbrough popster — who stormed to success with brother Carl in the reality show The X Factor — was left heartbroken last year following the breakdown of his marriage to Michelle, the mother of his toddler son Leo.

But he has exclusively revealed how he has found happiness once more after meeting his girlfriend Hannah, a sales manager, in the Spanish resort of Marbella . . . and the two are now house-hunting.

Andy, 31, said: “I met her in a bar. We were both quite drunk, and we’ve remained quite drunk . . . we’re quite a partying team!

“Hannah’s great. We’re not living together at the moment but we’re looking to buy a house together.

“I still get on fantastically with Michelle and see Leo, who’s two-and-a-half now, whenever I’m home in Middlesbrough . . . we do whatever we need to for our son.”

The Teesside siblings have enjoyed phenomenal success since competing on the X Factor in 2005.

The unique double act came third in the grand final . . . and their debut album went straight to No1, with their first week of sales beating the number of albums sold by the show’s winner Shayne Ward.

Despite their celebrity status, and spending most of the last year working on their second album Home, which goes on sale next week, the duo have never forgotten their roots, families or friends.

They say the first single from the album What I Love About Home reminds them just how much they miss Middlesbrough when they are working, and they have also dedicated the song to British troops serving abroad.

Andy said: “The single’s all about what we love about home and it’s something everyone can connect with.

“Middlesbrough is still home for us but we spend a lot of time working in London and we always really miss our family . . . and parmos of course!

“But more importantly, the song’s for all the troops serving in various parts of the world, and it has been picked up by the British Forces Broadcasting Service because they thought it was so apt.

“Towards the end of the year we’re on about going to Germany to do a concert for the troops.”

Since shooting to fame, Carl, 26, who recently married long-term girlfriend Victoria Duffy, and Andy have both spent their money wisely, much to dad Trevor’s delight.

Andy said: “I think our biggest purchases have been property, so our dad is very happy.

“I’ve got a cool duplex apartment in Yarm with a huge 50-inch plasma telly — I love watching telly — and Carl’s bought himself a house in Middlesbrough.

“Carl became a dad in May when his wife had a baby boy, called Luke, so it’s all happening for us at the moment.”

Earlier this year, the boys left Simon Cowell’s record label Sony-BMG and, with the music mogul’s blessing, have set up their own record label ANCA, through which they have produced their album.

It’s early days for their record label, but the Pemberton brothers hope many more acts will join them soon.

Andy said: “Simon said he was happy to let us go on our own . . . it was all very amicable. It’s great having full creative authority and in the future we are looking for others to join us.

He added: “The last two years have been like a dream come true for both of us.”

V What I Love About Home is released tomorrow and their album Home is out on October 22. To watch the video for the new single, please visit sundaysun.co.uk and follow the links.
