SUNDERLAND-BORN Maurice Roeves makes a guest appearance in the latest Trial and Retribution.
He plays Ken Randle, the father of a murdered son, who starts to have doubts over the convicted killer’s guilt.
The episode also starts to fill in some of the gaps in cop Roisin Connor’s background.
Victoria Smurfitt, who plays the character, said: “There were things I decided very early on about Connor in order to be able to play her.
“One of the things I’ve always imagined was that her dad was probably not a particularly nice man, that there was no warmth in their home life, and that he hurt her mother.
“But here we are actually introducing into the script for the first time the notion that her father was very similar to her, very cold, and he probably withheld love and care.
“She has spent her life trying to get away from that and, in doing so, has become like the father she was trying to distance herself from.”
