In brief Cutting-edge graphic design work has gone on show at the Reg Vardy Gallery, Ryhope Road, Sunderland. The exhibition The Confessions of a Graphic Designer features the work of some of the most innovative typographers, writers, web designers and architects. They include Kyle Cooper, whose work can be seen in the title sequences of films such as Se7en, Spiderman and Dawn Of The Dead, and Mike Mills who designed graphics for Sonic Youth, The Beastie Boys and Marc Jacobs. The exhibition was co-curated by Neal Ewins, a graphic design lecturer at Sunderland University. Rob Blackson, curator of the gallery, said the exhibition showed designers from Tokyo, Los Angeles, New York and London who had made some of the most striking contributions to visual culture. It runs until April 8. An art auction in aid of the regions affected by the Christmas tsunami disaster raised £12,200 at the weekend. Haydon Bridge artist Siân Bowen said the organisers were delighted at the response to the charity auction in Hexham for which artists around the region and beyond had donated work. "We were thrilled because we thought we might be able to raise £5,000," she said. "We didn't know how many people would come but there was a very good response. There was a wide range of work on offer and it all sold," The top price of £1,200 was paid for a drawing donated by Antony Gormley. |
