Animator Curtis Jobling will be purring with pride when his new cartoon Good Cat, Bad Cat is let loose at a film festival this week. Curtis - the creator of Bob the Builder and his cat Pilchard - will see his new animation receive its world premiere on Teesside at the Animex International Festival of Animation. The North Yorkshire-based animator joined forces with the up-and-coming Seed Animation Studio in Middlesbrough to create Good Cat, Bad Cat. It's a tale of two feline siblings who could not be more different. Curtis said: "Good Cat, Bad Cat is the story of two cats who are the complete antithesis of each other. "They are like the `good cop, bad cop' of the cat world, and the film records their misadventures as Good Cat wins various accolades, such as the `Goodermost Cat Ever' award, while his brother tries to outdo Lucifer himself in the evil stakes." Animator Curtis, who also worked on Wallace and Gromit and Tim Burton's movie Mars Attacks, came to Middlesbrough more than a decade ago to study at Cleveland College of Art and Design. Since then his career has taken off, thanks largely to Bob the Builder, which is broadcast in more than 100 countries and is the top-rated pre-school programme in the UK. He is also a children's author, best known for Dinosaurs After Dark and Frankenstein's Cat. Curtis said the sixth Animex festival would provide a great platform from which to launch Good Cat, Bad Cat. Four other short films by some of the region's best animators will also be showcased. |
