New deals for Bath duo
19:45, Feb 8 2010
Veteran forwards Danny Grewcock and Duncan Bell have committed their respective futures to Bath by signing contract extensions with the Guinness Premiership club.
Former England and British and Irish Lions lock Grewcock, who has been at The Recreation Ground since 2001, has penned a one-year deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2011.
The 37-year-old is currently serving a seven-week suspension after he was sent off for stamping on Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris during the Irish province's 26-10 Heineken Cup win at The Rec on January 22.
Grewcock will also continue to combine a player development role with his playing duties.
Prop Bell, 35, won a recall to the England set-up during the autumn internationals as Martin Johnson was bedevilled by front-row injuries, and he has extended his stay at the club by another two seasons.
Head coach Steve Meehan is delighted that both men have chosen to sign new deals.
The Australian said of Grewcock: "Danny is one of our most respected players, a model professional who does a terrific amount of work in the community and is a great example for our younger players.
"Grewy's decision to remain with the squad reflects that he is still enjoying the game and sees a bright future for the team. We will be drawing on his experience over the years to come in what we see as a very important appointment for his and the club's future."
Meehan also praised former Pontypridd tighthead Bell, saying: "Duncan had a very good 2009, playing many matches for Bath and winning an England recall. He is a strong and destructive scrummager and has a very good feel for the ball.
"We are all pleased that a player with his experience and skills will be remaining with the club as we all work hard to get back to being one of the most successful and exciting teams in the league."
