Hull secure last-gasp win
18:45, Jul 1 2012
England centre Kirk Yeaman struck with two tries in the last 10 minutes to help Hull to a 28-24 victory, their first Stobart Super League win in five matches in an error-strewn thriller at the KC Stadium.
Hooker Aaron Heremaia was also among the tryscorers on his home debut as the lead changed hands six times before Yeaman finally settled matters with the game's ninth try two minutes from the end.
The win lifts Hull level with fifth-placed Huddersfield, who remain in freefall with just one win in their last six league matches.
Hull opened the scoring in the third minute when Richard Horne, switched to the full-back role he is expected to occupy next season, brushed off the attempted challenge of Luke George to get winger Ben Crooks over for his fourth try in seven Super League appearances.
Huddersfield hooker Scott Moore then went close after a bulldozing run from England prop Eorl Crabtree and they drew level midway through the first half when a run from exciting full-back Greg Eden created the space for centre Leroy Cudjoe to jink his way over.
Former Hull scrum-half Danny Brough kicked the conversion to put the visitors in front but it was always a tenuous lead. Hull produced a delightfully crisp passing move to retake the lead on 32 minutes, with England winger Tom Briscoe finishing off at the corner and Danny Tickle adding the difficult conversion.
The Giants might have settled for a 10-6 deficit at half-time but they seized on a dropped ball on halfway as the hooter was about to sound and Brough was put through a gap by Moore, who got the supporting David Faiumu over for a second try.
Brough's second goal edged the visitors in front and they extended their lead early in the second half thanks to a breakaway try. Huddersfield captain Kevin Brown pounced on a kick by Hull scrum-half Brett Seymour to set up an audacious counter-attack.
Brough's third goal made it 18-10 but Heremaia brought his side back into the game on 66 minutes when he dummied his way over from 30 metres out, and Hull went back in front four minutes later when Yeaman pounced on a careless offload by Huddersfield's England prop Eorl Crabtree to score his first try.
In a frantic finish, Crabtree quickly made amends by supporting a break by Faiumu to score his ninth try of the season and Brough kicked his fourth goal. But Huddersfield conceded possession by allowing the re-start to go into touch and Yeaman punished them with his second try, with Tickle kicking a fourth goal.
