Sky's the limit for new boy Wiggins
13:45, Dec 10 2009
Bradley Wiggins was unveiled as a Team Sky rider on Thursday and is targeting Tour de France glory.
The 29-year-old agreed a four-year deal to join the BSkyB-backed, British-look road team in 2010 after negotiating his release from Team Garmin-Transitions, who had held his contract. He will work under British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford at Team Sky.
"The same mindset we take into this project is the same as with the track - to be the best we can possibly be, whatever the goal is," said Wiggins, who has won three Olympic gold medals and finished fourth in July's Tour de France. "If the goal next year is the Tour de France, then it will be to be in the best possible condition for July."
Wiggins' wait for a move to Team Sky was ended on Wednesday as the British team were finally given the go-ahead to recruit him.
"It's a bit of a strange day," added Wiggins at his unveiling in London.
"It's been going on for a while since we finished fourth in Paris, and finally we had confirmation on Wednesday that we're all good to go for 2010.
"Obviously it was always going to be a difficult situation to leave Garmin, I was surrounded by friends, had close relationships with the riders and some of the staff.
"But there was only ever going to be one team I would leave that team for, and that was of course to come home to Team Sky and pretty much everyone who has helped me to my Olympic success."
