Doyle undaunted by United trip
08:45, Dec 15 2009
Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has vowed that tonight's trip to Manchester United is not mission impossible.
Wolves will be massive underdogs when they travel to Old Trafford but they defied the odds to win 1-0 at Tottenham last weekend as a result of Doyle's fourth goal of the season and the Irishman is keen to bag another upset.
"Obviously United are one of the best teams in the world and it's always extremely difficult to get something there," said Doyle. "But you have to go into every match believing you can get a result and we're confident after winning the last two games."
This is just the attitude manager Mick McCarthy wants to hear from his players as he has been around long enough to know shock results can happen.
Another win against the odds would really add some momentum to Wolves' battle for survival following back-to-back victories.
But McCarthy knows the size of the task his team face especially with United smarting from being beaten at home by Aston Villa on Saturday and McCarthy said: "When was the last time Manchester United lost two at home on the bounce?
"But we are not giving it up. Far from it. We might just catch them lacking in confidence!
"I know United have got loads of injuries. But I saw them play without any centre backs recently in the Champions League and give someone a slapping so I am not feeling sorry for them.
"I know there is never a good time to play them. It is probably even worse after they have just been beaten at home."
