Donington dropped from BSB calendar
13:45, Dec 11 2009
Donington Park has been dropped from next year's British Superbike Championship.
With operating company, Donington Ventures Leisure Limited, in administration and the track itself unfit for use, Championship organisers have been left with no alternative but to make changes.
The event was scheduled for September 10-12 but will now take place at Croft, compounding Donington's problems after losing Formula One and MotoGP to Silverstone.
In a statement, MSVR, the commercial and organisational rights-holder of the British Superbike Championship, have admitted they were concerned following what transpired this year.
The statement read: "Earlier this year several planned race meetings were cancelled and the BSB round was only able to be confirmed as going ahead eight days before the event, which was quite unsatisfactory.
"Such uncertainty is clearly unacceptable for the teams, series organisers and spectators."
MSVR chief executive Jonathan Palmer added: "It is very important for the teams, our broadcast and commercial partners and above all the fans that we prepare a calendar consisting of venues where there is no doubt about whether or not the event will actually take place."
