In a strange twist of fate, Craig Denton will be blasting for family revenge when the senior ABA Championships take place on Tyneside this Friday night.
Stuart McCrone of Spennymoor had caused a shock when he beat top middleweight Mark Denton (Headlands) on points in the Tyne, Tees and Wear round.
The whole division had been thrown into confusion after Birtley's Gary Barr, the favourite for his first ABA title, had been forced to pull out with a virus.
Now McCrone must go into the North East Counties round at the Gateshead Leisure Centre against Mark's brother Craig, who officially represents the Sheffield club Hansworth though both brothers are from Hartlepool.
Top performer Bradley Saunders has broken a hand and been forced to pull out of the championships.
Saunders, from the South Durham club, is a multi-titled junior who is in his first season as a senior but a training injury has destroyed all his immediate hopes.
Who will now represent the area 60kgs is still currently in dispute.
Local club Birtley have Niki Gittus, David Pendleton and Jon Lewis Dickinson boxing on home ground.
