Paul is forced to quit the ring

Jun 5 2007

By The Evening Chronicle

Veteran Paul Araniello will say goodbye to his fighting days on Bilton Hall's final club show of the season at Temple Park Leisure Centre in South Shields on Friday night.

Araniello reaches the amateur age limit of 34 later this month and therefore has to retire.

He only took up the sport five years ago but has served Bilton Hall well with his "I'll box anyone anywhere anytime" attitude.

Paul goes in with Andrew Toner, from the Leam Lane club, a former junior ABA finalist.

Araniello will continue in the sport, however, as an ABA judge along with brother Tony.

Top of the bill features Bilton's Area ABA champion Sean Moore against the classy Marco Marsden from Newcastle. The two met in an excellent closely-fought contest last month with Moore just edging the decision.

Bilton's exciting, hard- hitting youth boxer Reece Brooks will be out to impress against the all- action Andy Stephenson from Bishop Auckland on a great family night. Brooks' younger brother Bradley will be making his debut against another Bishop Auckland performer Jimmy Tyers, while Alex Lynn, who is a cousin to Brooks, will be hoping for success when he faces Lambton Street's Reeve Kelly.

Brothers Christie and Brett Elliott will also be chasing a family double when they compete together for the first time on the same bill. Christie will be up against the tough Lee Hardman from Brambles Farm and Brett faces Lewis Aldridge (Wellington).

Senior lightweight prospect Billy Tolson will have his usual army of Bilton fans behind him when he goes in against Graham Tate of Bishop Auckland in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

Young Luke Wright fights Lee James (Consett) and Richie Urwin challenges Mark Richardson (Leam Lane).

No fewer than 12 of Bilton's squad feature, with the boxing starting at 8.15pm. Tickets cost £12 ringside and £7 outer ring and are on sale at the Temple Park Centre or from Martyn Devlin on (0191) 422 3816.
