Richard on a Roll to take NFSA competition

THE top two fish in the NFSA boat competition both came aboard Sarah JFK, with Richard Roll taking the biggest weighing in at 28lb 13oz, when weighed a good few hours after capture. Patrick Ward took the next biggest weighing in at 18lb.

Ling took the top places in the Bob White Memorial match fished by over 100 anglers. Sconner Robson, fishing aboard Warlord, took the biggest at 16.28lb, followed by Paul Dawson aboard Bold Endeavour with one of 13.75lb. The event raised over £2,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice.

In the Hartlepool charter boats summer competition, nobody could catch 16-year-old Elliott Carver, who took £1,000 with his ling of 28lb 4oz taken aboard Flamer II.

Pleasure fishing has also produced some nice fish. Mr Butler, fishing aboard Famous out of Hartlepool, took a cracking ling of 24lb 8oz, and an angler known only as Robbo took one of 18lb. Eastenders SAC fished aboard Sapphire out of Sunderland taking good numbers of cod (the best 13lb taken by Alan Jones), ling, whiting and coalfish, the best of 4lb 2oz taken by Gary Smith.

Shore sport has picked up with the rough conditions and big tides with cod to 4lb from most beaches and rock ends.

Newbiggin to Amble is producing the best catches, Willy Emery winning Newbiggin’s match from White House Sands with nine for 19lb, W Foster taking ten for 17lb from The Private Beach and Garry Tully six for 14lb from White House Sands. Double-figure bags have also come from The Downovers, Lobster Wells and Dulce Carrs.

Doug Spivey won Whitley Bay’s match with four cod for 7-10-0, best 3-9-0, Chris Stringer was second with four for 6-10-0.

Dave Todd fished at Hadston to win Blyth’s match with six for 6-6-0, Gordon Cavonor taking the heaviest of 3-7-0 from West Bay.

Dawn Tyler won Seaton Sluice’s match at Newton with three cod for 7-5-0, sharing the heaviest with Chris Guthrie at 3-10-0.

The Tyne also producing good catches. Jason Haw won Cleadon’s match from The Walkway with 10 cod for 12-14-0, Mark Weighman taking four cod, best 4-13-0, and an eel for 11-8-0 from Marsden Beach.

Keith Walker, fishing South Shields pier, took cod of 4lb, two at 2lb and a Pollock of 3lb.

A party of Ryhope SAC anglers travelled to Norway for a week’s angling with 25 different species taken.

Kevin Martin had the best fish, a 21lb cod. They plan to have another trip next year.
