Ormesby table tennis starlet Paul Drinkhall is attempting to add another major achievement to his impressive list this weekend.
The 15-year-old is bidding to break the 40 year record held by Chester Barnes as the youngest player ever to win the men's singles in the English National Championships.
On paper, Paul is an outsider, being seeded sixth.
He has three current internationals seeded in his path to the title - Alex Perry, Andrew Baggaley and the title holder, Alan Cooke.
However, with the recent improvement in his play, another victory for Drinkhall is a possibility.
Chester Barnes was the surprise winner of the English Championships in 1963 when the Essex youngster won the title at the age of 15 years and 11 months.
Paul was 15 in January and therefore, if successful in Sheffield, would beat Barnes' record by a comfortable margin.
Another target for Paul this weekend is to win the English Under 21 National Championships where he is the top seed.
If successful, he will also be the youngest to win the title, adding the Under 21 medal to the National Under 15 and Under 18 championships which he holds.
Last weekend Paul won the Under 18 boys singles in the Essex Junior Championships in Harlow.
In addition to Paul, his brother Bryn is also looking to do well in Sheffield. Bryn is ninth seed in the men's singles and has been drawn to meet third seed Terry Young of Berkshire in the last 16.
In the Under 21 event, Bryn is seeded fifth to play Tim Yarnall of Northants in the quarter finals.
Ormesby have a large contingent competing, including Steven Bailey, Danny Reed, Martin Clarke, Danny Welsh, Tim Surrey and Jonathan Durham.
