The newest star of Australian snooker has a green-baize legend in his sights at the Welsh Open in Newport tonight.
Neil Robertson does not rely on the tactical play of the late Eddie Charlton or the unpredictable antics of the controversial Quinten Hann.
Instead, the 22-year-old from Melbourne is building a reputation as one of the game's most formidable long potters and break-builders.
He again impressed during a quickfire 5-0 demolition of Gloucester's Robert Milkins in the first round yesterday, complete with breaks of 100, 69, 64 and 51.
And Robertson is hoping to carry the same golden form into his second-round clash with perennial crowd favourite Jimmy White.
The former world under-21 champion made his TV debut against White at the Masters 11 months ago, where the `Whirlwind' won 6-2.
Since then, Robertson has improved from 68th to 36th in the world rankings and is brimming with confidence as he takes on White again.
"I knew I'd play Jimmy if I got through and I'm really looking forward to it because he's one of my heroes," said Robertson, who also lost to White at the European Open in Malta last season.
"I've improved ridiculous amounts since I played him at Wembley. In the last year I've made such a big step up.
"I've moved to England and I'm practising with some really good players."
White is looking to make amends after just one win in the current campaign's first three tournaments.
