FOUR North East tennis starlets have romped to victory in the Northumberland Junior Open – winning in straight sets in their respective finals.
Their success moves them a step nearer to competing in the Sunday Telegraph/ Centre Parcs Junior Tennis Grand Prix finals.
The Northumberland Junior Open is one of 82 Grand Prix events across the country this summer in which players have sought qualifying points for this autumn’s finals.
Grace Dixon hopes to compete in the Grand Prix’s under-12s final, held at Nottingham’s Sherwood Forest Centre Parcs, after defeating Farah Abdel Aziz 7-6 6-2.
Ceara Howard and Tony Matthewson won the under-18 boys and girls’ sections, overcoming Lauren Jones 6-4, 6-3, and Adam Boba 6-0, 6-2 respectively.
Dominic Sutton won the 16s and under event, beating Matthew Conway 6-3, 6-1, in the final.
Grace’s finals will be from September 14 to 17 with those hopefully involving Ceara, Tony and Lauren at the La Manga Club in Spain between November 4 and 11.
