WITH only three matches of the season left to play defending champions Byker PTE (52) hold on to top spot in the Disabled League by three points despite losing 2-1 at home to the improved fourth-placed Supa Snooker (41).
Runners-up Hartlepool A (49) failed to take their chance of putting pressure on the leaders and suffered an even worse fate after being whitewashed 3-0 on their visit to third-placed Washington SC (42).
Former title holders St Luke’s (38) 2-1 home win proved too good for bottom placed Hartlepool B (19).
While Supa Snooker’s Terry Patterson sets the pace for the highest break award with a record breaking run of 42, Alice Hunter (St Luke’s) showed the way for the Oscar award (players handicapped 20 and over) with a nice break of 25.
In the semi-final shootout of the Singles Championship held at Washington SC, Supa Snooker’s newcomer Davey Braddick came through a tough battle to beat PTE’s Alan Curry 2-1.
Facing Braddick in tomorrow’s final (12 noon at same venue) will be PTE’s star Andy Divers who came home in two straight sets against Hartlepool’s cue man Paul Hiscoe.
The nip-and-tuck battle was a lot closer than the scores suggest, with Divers claiming him the first set by a single point 51-50, and the second by five points.
