Table Tennis: Cricketers catch Firemen on hop

Stockton Cricket Club A, top of the Stockton League's first division, stumped the Firemen 9-1.

Mark Walpole and Peter Sermon won their three games and the doubles while Rus Daniels won two. Keith Dobinson replied.

At the bottom end of the division Northfield Seniors beat Northfield Sharks 9-1, Ken Edon and Ron Evans winning three games and Dave Poultney winning two plus the doubles with Evans . Sharks winner was Dave Drummond.

Seniors then lost 6-4 away at the A team. Karl Shaw and Billy Young won their three games for the A team while Seniors' Ken Edon, Peter Philips and Dave Poultney all won one game and the doubles.

Top team in Division Two, Billinghamn Press crushed Cobras 10-0. Malcolm Noble, George Picken and Steve Lee all won their games plus the doubles. Michael Weeks for a young Cobra's team was their best player taking more experienced players to five ends before being beaten.

Stockton Cricket Club C caught out the Pingers taking a 7-3 win away from home. Cricket Club's Stan Farthing won his three games with Paul and Brian Scrafton winning two games each. For Pingers Karl Webster and Steve Burge won one game each with Steve and Darren Teece taking the doubles.

Trios recorded a good win against Topcats beating them 8-2. Trios' Jonathan Reilly won his three games with Walter Greenwood and Craig Grounds winning two sets apiece plus the doubles. For Topcats Rebecca Orley and Phil Teece won one game each.

In the third division, first place team Flirting Bratts had a tight match against the Midgets eventually winning 6-4. Michelle Cooper won three games and Helen won two games and combined in the doubles match to take a win.

In the other match in Division Three, Buggleskelly beat Elsdons 9-1. Lee Longstaff, Adam Lauders and Jack Bromley all won their three games with Elsdon's winning game coming from the doubles match when Chris Elsdon and Gary Gilchrist took a good win

MIDDLESBROUGH

KADER Nomads B defeated the current leaders, Nunthorpe B 6-4 with Mark Allison scoring a hat-trick.

In the Knock Out Handicap Cup, Ormesby D progressed to the next round with an 18 points victory over North East Tyres B.

Ormesby's lead was established mainly with victories for Robert Besford, Jennifer Lowther and Andrew Dawson over Huw Williams.

In all three matches the Ormesby youngsters gained at least ten points against the handicap.

Results - Division One: Nunthorpe A (Bell 3, Robson 3, Bousefield 3) 10, Ormesby A 0. Div Two: Kader Nomads B (Allison 3, Howe 2, Lowther) 6, Nunthorpe B (Hildreth, Goulding, Teasdale 4. Div Three: Ormesby E (Arbon 2, Whyte 3) 6, South Bank Mission (Meek 2, Goddard, Mann) 4; Ormesby C (Stephenson) 1, University B (Brown 3 Gerges 2 Reebye 3) 9. Cup: Ormesby D 396, North Eastern Tyres & Exhausts 378.
