A North East surfer has been chosen to represent Britain at the World Surfing Games next month.
Sam Lamiroy, 30, who was brought up in Tynemouth, will join the Freespirit British surf team who have earned a place in the prestigious event, widely regarded as surfing's equivalent to the Olympic Games.
Lamiroy started surfing aged 11 on Longsands Beach.
Now living in Newquay, Cornwall, he will be making his fourth British team appearance.
He has previously represented his country in competitions in Ecuador (2004), Brazil (2000) and California (1998.)
The International Surfing Association's World Surfing Games will take place at Huntington Beach in California from October 14-22 and more than 350 competitors from 35 nations will be entering.
Lamiroy said: "It is such an honour to be selected for the British team and I will be concentrating on my surf and fitness training so I am in the very best of form for California.
"To be surfing again with the UK's top competitors against the best surfers in the world is going to be an amazing experience and I looking forward to it."
