A family affair

Aug 1 2007

by Tony Hodgson, Evening Chronicle

THE Clennell family were in top form as Lintz recorded another win against Lanchester.

Jordan Clennell finished up with 30 and was second top-scorer behind Robbie Griffin’s unbeaten 40 as Lintz reached 95 with Andrew Sowden (3-9) the only Lanchester bowler to make a real impression.

Jordan then switched from bat to ball and claimed 3-6, with Nathan Clennell (2-5) and Liam Cook (2-7) helping ensure the the Kitswell Road lads were all back in the pavilion for just 48.

Harry Lovell top-scored with 39 as Burnopfield were left wondering if they had enough runs on the board when making 91-6 against visiting Whickham.

They need not have worried as Lovell, Joseph English and Calum Barnes all snapped up two cheap wickets each to restrict the Whickham reply to only 42-8.

Dan Owen was the star of the show when Chopwell accounted for Tantobie in a low-scoring game.

Chopwell’s total of 79-9 must have left them fearing the worst – but there was no need.

Owen claimed a hat-trick as he ripped through the Tantobie batting to record (4-8) and there were figures of (3-8) from John Meadows as Tantobie were dismissed for just 36.

Sacriston’s 105-5 was too much for Greenside who could only respond with 50.

Ryton were shot out for only 30 against Annfield, who cruised to a maximum 10-wicket win after both Stephenson and Dixon claimed three wickets apiece.

In the JUNIOR DIVISION, a half-century from top-order batsman Will Cleaver paved the way for Shotley Bridge to claim maximum points against Burnopfield.

Shotley finished up with 137-7 before leg-spinner Andrew Stokoe got to work with the ball, taking 4-18 to leave Burnopfield well adrift of the Spa lads on 82.

Title contenders Blaydon suffered a setback when their match was hit by the weather – opening the door slightly for their main rivals.

The talented Nathan Clennell produced an excellent all-round display to set up an eight-wicket verdict against Greenside. First Clennell struck four times at a cost of just seven runs as Greenside were pegged back to 69-9 despite an unbeaten 36 from Dave Mitchell and then struck 38 to wrap up the win.

Kieran Gohery was another in good nick with bat ball as Annfield Plain beat Whickham.

He top-scored with an unbeaten 58 out of 127-6 and then claimed 3-17 as the Glebe outfit were bowled out for 58.

  • ROSS Nicholson hit a superb 130 to steer Durham Under-14s to a 148-run victory over Northumberland in the Tyne Tees Television Cup final at Felling.
  • Nicholson’s knock helped his team reach 271-5 and they then limited Northumberland to 127 in their reply.
