NUMEROUS meeting records fell thanks to the good weather at Gateshead Harriers’ 13th edition of the Tartan Games. Pride of place went to English Schools’ 100m champion Richard Kilty, who erased the old 100m and 200m times from the record books, no mean achievement considering the senior 200m record belonged to his coach, Jared Deacon. Dean Barratt, also of Gateshead, ended his season on a high by winging out the javelin to 60.33 metres, a new personal best by over three metres which moves him up from 17th to sixth in this season’s UK junior rankings. Another Gateshead athlete, Rachael Davidson, broke the junior women’s long jump record, though her winning effort of 4.79 metres was slightly down on her best distance.
