Ace Petr keeps feelings in Cech

May 2 2005

By The Evening Chronicle

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech believes the club will now go from strength to strength after securing the Barclays Premiership title.

Cech was one of his side's heroes as the Blues clinched their first league title for 50 years with a 2-0 victory at Bolton.

Their next objective is to win the Champions League - they face Liverpool in the second leg of their semi-final tomorrow - and then to sustain success over the long-term.

Czech international Cech said: "The talk about the pressure on us to defend the title has already started.

"However, we have been under pressure for the whole of this season and we managed to withstand it.

"It is difficult to predict things in football but I believe we will compete for the top places next season as well."

Cech is confident the Blues can go on to claim a place in the Champions League final in Istanbul.

He enjoyed the celebrations in Bolton but insists nothing will distract Chelsea from their task at Anfield as they aim to build on a goalless first leg.

He said: "Our celebrations were influenced by the fact we have a very important match tomorrow in which we want to succeed.

"We celebrated with our fans at the stadium, then there was a toast with champagne in the hotel - but shortly after that everybody went to have a rest.

"We know it will not be an easy match but we know what we are playing for. Our great advantage is we can score a goal and then we do not need to even win to go through."
