DARLINGTON striker Guy N’Dumbu-Nsungu is hoping his second spell with the club lasts longer than his first. The Congolese hit-man upset some of the Quaker faithful by leaving for Cardiff City just half a season after joining Darlington in the summer of 2005. He rattled in 10 goals in those six months, but as he was on a short-term contract he left for South Wales when Cardiff came knocking. Fate has drawn him back to the North East with another short-term deal, and this time he wants to hang around. “I want to score goals and stay here,” he said. “This time we are a better team and I want to win promotion and play in a higher division with Darlington.” He failed to score at Cardiff, then had limited success after moving to Gillingham, though he hit six goals while on loan at Bradford this season, alerting Darlington manager Dave Penney. And Guy has started his second spell in the same manner as his first – by banging in the goals. He had scored two in two games, before almost making it three, only to be denied by the post against Chester City last week. “Goals give me confidence,” he said. “And I am pleased to have scored in my first two games back, though I know I can play better. “There are a lot of strikers who can score goals at Darlington now, and I have to fight for my place. “Every time I play I want to score. “The challenge for me is to do well here.” |
