Proud teachers are to honour a pupil knocked down and killed making his way home from a Christmas party.
Talented footballer William Hunter, 16, was struck by a taxi in the early hours of December 12 when he and pals were walking back from Newcastle's Airport Hotel after a sixth-form party.
Now school bosses have created a trophy in honour of the teenager, who would have turned 17 last month.
The Kenton Comprehensive pupil was a Magpie-mad goalkeeper who one day dreamed of pulling on the Number One jersey for his beloved Newcastle United at St James's Park.
Toon shot-stopper Shay Given was among the hundreds of mourners who packed into the Church of Ascension in Kenton, Newcastle, just days before Christmas.
The William Hunter Memorial Trophy will be handed out to the school's player of the year.
Mum Tanya, of Winton Way, North Kenton, Newcastle, said: "It's a lovely gesture by the school. It's still so hard for us. I keep expecting him to walk through the door at any moment.
"He lived for his football and his hero was Shay Given. Coaches would say he was the best goalie in the North East."
