Race hate thugs are plotting to cause mayhem on the streets of the North East, an Evening Chronicle investigation has discovered. Chronicle reporters have infiltrated two neo-nazi groups and uncovered an agenda of hate in which far-right extremists detail plans to create an 'all- white' North East. They are using e-mail, mobile phones and internet chat rooms to organise their violence. And their targets include next week's England versus Albania friendly at St James's Park, and a march through the streets of Sunderland next month. One thug, known only as Mike, told our reporter through e-mail: "Asylum seekers are fair game in my book." Referring to the recent racist murder of Turkish refugee Firsat Yildiz in Glasgow, he added: "A good start in Scotland, wasn't it? We could have a league championship in asylum-bashing between all the towns in the UK." He signed off his message: 'Sieg Heil!' He is a member of one of three main racist cells operating in the North East. One is based in the Co Durham town of Consett and has grown around local Nazi rock bands Warhammer and Skullhead, whose songs include 'Die Jew Die' and 'Hang 'em High'. A dozen skinheads aged between 35 and 45 follow their doctrine of race hate and thuggery based on the Hitler-worshipping para-military group Combat 18. Rodney Aikin, the lead singer of Warhammer, a former bouncer in Newcastle's Bigg Market, was exposed as a racist thug by the Chronicle last year. Now we can reveal that his lead guitarist Frazer Robinson, from Brandon, Durham City, has a string of convictions for racial assault. Another cell is centred on Newcastle, where the Asian community has been a target of aggression. Kevin Scott, who has a first class honours degree in History and Politics is the British National Party organiser for Tyneside. After dropping out of far right activities for a few years Scott now organises the BNP in the North East. But despite his middle-class educated background he has convictions for assault and for using threatening words and behaviour against Asians. Others in the Tyneside cell include Simon Biggs, who has served time for racial attacks, John Harwood the former National Front organiser for Newcastle, and Nazi hardman Gary Mitchell, who is now serving 10 years for rape and burglary. One thug named Jimmy, who lives in Newcastle, said: "Judging by what has happened in Glasgow, the thing to do to get rid of the asylum seekers is to kill one of them. "So if we kill an asylum seeker in each city in the country they are all gonna disappear back to their own countries? "I don't think they will, maybe 10 should be killed in each city." The third and most powerful of the neo-Nazi groups is based in South Tyneside and Wearside. They focus on a group in South Shields and the notorious Seaburn Casuals football hooligans in Sunderland. A measure of their violence emerged recently when Stephen Coleman and Richard Wingrove were jailed for a total of 18 years for a knife attack on disabled South Shields man Jason Thompson. Mr Thompson, who was born with curvature of the spine, was attacked because he did not meet their Aryan ideal of a perfect white example. It was one in a series of attacks and followed the jailing of Sunderland thug John Monarch who was locked up for five years after he almost kicked a 16-year-old Asian boy to death. A leading member of the South Tyneside and Sunderland cell is a 26-year-old mother-of-two who incites fellow National Front and Combat 18 activists to murder and violence. Posting anonymously onto the National Front's official website, under the nickname Anon Deux, she writes: "Once a Paki and refugee-free area, the North East is beginning to show signs of these people at an alarming rate. "It's time to clean up the North East. We dont want them here. "Where's me razor sharp knife?" The Sunderland and South Tyneside Nazi groups were responsible for inviting the National Front to stage a march in Sunderland aimed at inciting violence against the 882 asylum seekers there. But police intelligence and a march ban upheld by Home Secretary David Blunkett stopped them and 30 Combat 18 and NF activists were arrested before any trouble could flare. But the Chronicle has discovered the planned demo, was just a testing ground for a diary of violence over the next few weeks. The National Front and Combat 18 plan to return to the city for another race hate march and rally on September 15 and plan to disrupt the England match in Newcastle. Nazi Mike said: "As for England v Albania - the Albanians are the biggest terrorist drug dealers in Europe, are getting white women hooked on drugs and making them into prostitutes, and worming their slimy way into all of Europe as refugees from Kosovo." The Tyne and Wear Anti Fascist Association, TWAFA, claims the racist threat is underestimated in the region. "We've monitored these people for a number of years and pointed out how dangerous they are," said TWAFA chairman Mike Hartman. "The BNP now wishes to present itself as the respectable face of extreme nationalism yet there is a great deal going on behind the scenes. The nail bomb campaign in London was conducted by a man who was a member of the BNP." Special Branch and Northumbria Police have massive dossiers of intelligence on far right suspects. Special Branch staff will not talk about their work, but a spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "Any incident reported to us, with any racial overtones, is rigorously investigated. The welfare of the community is paramount." Ashok Kumar Sharma, president of the Hindu Temple in Newcastle's West End said he believed good work was being done in race relations, but warned: "Everyone needs to be aware of the National Front and be very careful." A National Front regional spokesman said: "We are democratic, honest, heterosexual, racialist, patriotic, proud of our heritage British people concerned about our future." |
