The House of Lords yesterday overturned a decision by three senior judges, who had accused TV companies of censorship.
Pro Life Alliance has been involved in a battle with the TV companies since they refused to screen in full its party political broadcast, containing "shocking" images of abortions, in 2001.
The Court of Appeal, overturning a High Court decision, ruled that the BBC and independent channels had acted illegally in refusing to show part of the Welsh broadcast by the Pro Life Alliance. Lord Justice Laws called the refusal an act of censorship.
But yesterday, by a five-to-four majority, the Law Lords allowed a BBC challenge. They will give their full ruling later.
Anne Sloman, chief political advisor for the BBC, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the result."
