Bride and groom Susan Smith and Martin Black were married yesterday - just a few weeks after the couple learned that Martin was dying.
Susan, 19, arrived at Gateshead Civic Centre dressed for the ceremony in a cream and gold wedding dress with a train and followed by her three bridesmaids.
Martin, 19, followed soon afterwards and was helped from the car by his best man.
His health has deteriorated rapidly because of the leukaemia from which he is suffering.
Yesterday's wedding, in front of 100 family and friends, was brought forward by a month because Martin's condition was growing worse.
The couple kissed and posed happily for photographers after the 30-minute ceremony.
Susan and Martin now hope to have a baby.
They have had consultations with fertility experts at Newcastle's Centre for Life and hope she will soon conceive from Martin's sperm which was frozen before he underwent intensive chemotherapy.
Martin, from Felling, Gateshead, said: "She looked gorgeous and I am very happy. Everything is going ahead very well with the baby and I am very pleased."
Susan, from Donwell, Washington, arrived a few minutes before the groom.
Martin had hoped to walk to the ceremony, but his condition has left him unable to stand and he had to use a wheelchair.
Susan said afterwards: "It was brilliant; it is going perfectly.
"I was a bit nervous, obviously, because I am getting married - but everything went fine.
"It was the same as any other wedding: we are in love and everyone gets emotional.
"There were a few tears shed, but that comes with a ceremony like this.
"We are very happy and that's all that matters."
The groom's mother, Gillian, a 48-year-old care home worker, said: "I have had a few tears today but I have had to fight them back.
"Martin looked absolutely gorgeous and so does Sue and all her bridesmaids.
"We didn't think we would get him here, but we did.
"We are having a lovely day that we are going to remember. It has all been a bit of a rush."
Martin's two sisters, Samantha, aged 27, and 16-year-old Stephanie, were bridesmaids, as was Susan's sister, Toni.
The couple met three years ago, shortly before he was diagnosed with leukaemia, which was in remission for 18 months but recurred in January.
