Spoon-bending psychic Uri Geller today urged the Toon Army to use mind power to will crocked Kieron Dyer into the World Cup. The mystic novelist has teamed up with the Chronicle to use his extraordinary gifts to get Newcastle United's £20 million-rated midfielder fit. Desperate Dyer, 23, is facing a race against the clock to be fit in time for England's first match against Sweden on June 2. He suffered damage to his left knee after a vicious challenge in the last Premiership game of the season by Southampton's Tahar El Khalej last Saturday. England boss Eriksson has said Dyer can join the World Cup squad in Dubai this week but still needs to prove his fitness. And today Uri called on fans to lay their hands on our picture of Dyer's knee and pray for a speedy recovery. Uri, who famously used his mental power to break United's London hoodoo after a 29-match losing streak, said: "I was asked to do this for David Beckham's foot two weeks ago and it worked. "I am confident we can help Kieron Dyer as well. It's in the interest of the whole nation because we are in trouble if he doesn't get better. "This is not some kind of light-hearted demonstration, this is serious. "I'm asking everyone to concentrate on the image three times a day. Readers should place their hands on mine and spend one minute sending healing energy to Dyer. "Use any method you choose, whether it be visualisation of Dyer being fit, meditation, or prayer. "Just remember there will be tens of thousands of people doing it with you and try to feel that strength of number. "I am not a medical worker or healer, but I do believe in the power of positive thinking and if the fans really care, I am confident this can work." Uri urged readers to place their hands on Dyer's knee three times a day - preferably at 11.11am, 1.11pm, and 1.11am. Uri believes 11 is a special number - Dyer wore the Number 11 shirt in his last England match. Former paratrooper Uri said: "If Kieron Dyer is reading this, I would ask him to be receptive to the idea of the healing powers of his fans as that helps, too. "If he wants to come and see me, I will try to help him in person. I've done this for footballers lots of times in the past and I can do it again. "In my opinion we are all connected to each other with a spiritual thread with which we can transmit energy. If we use this correctly it can be extremely powerful." Dyer is having extensive treatment on his knee this week and is determined to try to get fit. He said: "I'm still hopeful and I haven't given up hope of going to the World Cup finals. I've got to stay positive." Spoon Army broke curse Psychic Uri Geller has worked miracles for the Toon Army since being drafted in by the Chronicle. Uri first came to our aid in December last year as Newcastle United prepared to take on Arsenal. The Magpies had an incredibly bad run after playing 29 games without a win in the capital, so Uri stepped in with a bid to break the London curse. Uri, who is best friends with pop star Michael Jackson, used the Chronicle to pass on a message to the Toon Army, telling them to focus their thoughts on getting a victory. And fans were delighted when United scored an incredible 3-1 victory at Highbury. Uri was hailed a hero and an honorary Geordie after breaking the jinx. Since then, he has joined forces with the Chronicle several times to help heal injured players and win difficult matches by encouraging positive thinking among fans. But one of Uri's biggest successes was when he appeared on GMTV and appealed for positive thinking about David Beckham's foot. Fans were dismayed when England captain Beckham was a victim of a bad tackle and looked set to miss the World Cup. But after Uri's heartfelt appeal on GMTV, the foot began to heal and he is now almost certain to play in the tournament. Football fan Uri today announced he is to continue helping footballers after buying into Third Division side Exeter City, to become joint chairman. He said: "I love football and I am always happy to help teams out. " |
