Wallsend dad Joe Clarke died as he rushed to protect his son Robert from two youths high on a cocktail of valium, temazepam, cannabis and beer, who then slashed and shot him.
A man high on valium was given a nine-year sentence after he slashed his friend 21 times in a frenzied and unprovoked knife attack. Stephen Pollin, 23, of Sycamore Road, Blaydon, had also threatened to cut victim Lee Tully's throat.
